Description:

Oplink’s model OPM 115 is a small unit for any kind of RS-232 data communication.

Oplink’s model OPM 115 mobile unit is specifically designed for hand-held data terminals or bar code readers. It can be supplied as a plug-in unit or as an OEM.

The 115 system comprises a compact mobile unit and a fixed base unit. The compact unit is designed to be attached to, or incorporated with, either a bar code scanner unit, a hand held computer, a notebook computer or any portable or fixed terminal that has a serial communications interface.

The fixed unit is connected to a PC and can be installed in a network configuration suitable for large areas.

The communication can be, in many instances, omni directional, by using diffuse reflections. Data rates are up to 115,200 bps.

The IR communication range is 10m-20m, with no requirement for direct line of sight in typical environments, and 30m-70m , when line of sight is maintained between the fixed and mobile unit.

Many portable units can be addressed from the same base unit. This is managed by the communication software built into the unit.

This system is specifically suitable for fast transfer of files in a moving vehicle: the IR communication is accomplished at a high baud rate and is stored in a buffer to be emptied at the desired terminal baud rate.

Very high reliability is achieved thanks to the built-in error detection protocol. If an error is detected, the data is retransmitted.
